The Crown Province of Østgarðr (or "Ostgardr" for the browser-impaired and differently-networked) is the greater New York City area chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc, an international organization whose members practice selective re-creation of aspects of medieval and Renaissance culture. Østgarðr encompasses the five boroughs of New York City, as well as Nassau, Putnam, and Westchester Counties, NY.
Østgarðr is a part of the East Kingdom, the SCA region covering the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada. Here's a picture of the East Kingdom Royal Encampment at Pennsic XXV.
If you're looking for the SCA, but not the one that's about the Middle Ages and Renaissance, try this list of other organizations called SCA.
If you can think of a craft that was practiced in the Middle Ages or Renaissance, and is still legal today, there's probably somebody in the SCA -- and quite likely in the Ostgardr area -- doing and teaching it. This is a group for people who like doing things themselves, not just watching. See this list of activities popular in Ostgardr.
Many people use many different terms for what we do. I'm working on a page about differences among re-creation, re-enactment, living history, experimental archaeology, etc.
