Goals for 2001

From the Seneschal

This January begins the final year of my service as Seneschal (in Ostgardr and beyond). I will be moving to other things more in my interest after my term ends. Many of the things I have set out to accomplish have been met, and some will be finished in this year.

My goals for 2001:

1. Get the "Seastar" up and running. To be given out at events for service or good deeds noticed at an event. It is non armigerous, can be given multiple times, and is our way of saying "Thanks, we appreciate what you do" It will be inaugurated at Sated Sultan.
   I also support and encourage any who want to give personal tokens or thanks as well. There are never enough ways to say thank you.
2. To encourage Broken Bridge to full Canton Status
3. I'd like to start putting our minutes of meetings on both Ostgardr lists so that those who miss them can keep up with us.
4. I'd like also to have a web file of said meetings on our site.
5. I'd like to start a membership drive for our group. While Ostgardr proper is bustling with members, our surrounding cantons are feeling the pinch. If we have a core group handling this, we can all benefit.
6. We absolutely need to shadow our newcomers at their first event. We continue to lose them at an alarming rate. We need a "welcome wagon" of all types of people. Please volunteer if interested.
7. Demos need to be reevaluated. Are we getting anything for what we are giving? Are we giving too little for some and too much for others? Should we have a formal demo team?
8. I'd like to see a formalization of the A&S groupings (A C&I gathering? A Cooks' Gathering? A Costumers' Gathering? A Brewers' Gathering?)
9. I'd love to see some smaller, time or area specific, informal events.... One time shots meant for fun. (Not all should be annual affairs). Perhaps some Sunday events???
10. I'd like to see more people write to Ian and Katherine about members who should receive a Seahorse or a Sea Dog.
11. I'd like to see some heraldic closure on the Sea Dog......It's been 3 years.
12. We need an indoor site for fighting. In any of the Cantons.... Look around and tell us what you find.
13. I'd like to see more regalia at events. Starting in January, look for times and places where we can meet to work on Servers' Tabards, Wall Hangings, and Table ware.We don't need this stuff, but we are Ostgardr, the oldest group in the Kingdom. We should look the best and be the proudest of what we have!!
14. And finally, I am going to be starting a servers academy. No more haphazard service by whoever draws a short straw. I'd like to institute a 1/2 payment (refund, so we can keep track) for members who agree to serve tables at events (they will be fed separately from the hall).

This is what I wish to accomplish this year. Your input might change my mind.
