Highlights from the April 18 Commons by mar-Joshua from notes taken by Lady Branwen. Errors are likely; deal with it. Broken Bridge: The paperwork for the Canton (not Riding) of Broken Bridge has been sent in. Several officers have apparently been captured by Whyt Whey, to be returned upon payment in mead. Pacita Prasarn should be listed as Chatelaine of Broken Bridge; Marian Pereira is Chatelaine of Whyt Whey. (Sorry about the glitch! -- Joshua) Northpass: Chris has relieved Michelle in the Chronicler's job. Rick has designed a new SCA poster, which is available to cantons. Open house May 17 to decorate for Barleycorn. Brewing workshop at May Commons. Archery practice every 1st Sunday at Blue Mountain, where Barleycorn will be (maybe Sept. 5-7). Whyt Whey: The new Chronicler, Paul, is settling in smoothly. The Canton is ordering a bunch of medallions with Canton arms, to be sold as a fundraiser. Workshop May 31 to make green-and-white tabards and banners. The Floyd Bennett event may change dates. We have a site for Useful University in October (18th?), PS 41 in the Village. Herald: Branch submissions are no longer free, and must be approved by half of the active members and 3/4 of the officers. Viceroy and Vicereine: Crown Tourney is nearby; Ostgardrians should get to it and other Kingdom events to make their presence known. If you think somebody deserves an AoA or other award, write the Crowns and the Kingdom Seneschal, copied to us, with detailed reasons. Dee Wolff sent in a bid for a 1998 Crown. The proposed Provincial Bylaws will be mailed out within a few weeks. Please send in Pennsic preregistration forms (see Pikestaff); our camping area is zoned high-density, so we can't guarantee space to anybody who doesn't preregister. Captain of Archers: I've downloaded the Combat Archery rules from the Web; see me for copies. We need both combat and target archers for Pennsic (limit of 45-lb draw for the former). We also need one Scout per five fighters. Lions End: Lions in Winter will be Dec. 13. Midsummer Lions in late June? Electing a new Seneschal in June. Bardic College: At the recent competition for King's/Queen's Bard, six of the seventeen contestants were from Ostgardr. As always, the Webmaster and Chronicler of Ostgardr request articles, event reviews, photos, drawings, museum exhibitions, etc. Provincial Seneschal: Remember the Huntington Renaissance Faire demo on Memorial Day weekend. We're not in a state of war with anyone; why not? Upcoming Meetings: May 16th at Ben's in Brooklyn; June 20 at Kamilah's in Manhattan; need a volunteer from Long Island for July (preferably July 18). May Commons will be on May 16 at 8 PM at Ben Rivera's, 190 Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, (718) 436-6278, ben_rivera@smb.com. From Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge, follow signs to BQE, take Prospect Expwy to Church St. exit. Immediately look for parking; bldg. is next to exit ramp. From L.I, Belt Pkwy. to Ocean Pkwy. N exit onto Ave. Z. L onto Ocean Pkwy, L on Beverly (just before Church) and park. Subway: F train to Church Ave. Leave station on Church Ave. side. Walk 5 short blocks to Ocean Pkwy.
