Highlights from the Dec. 19 Commons Northpass: Due to health and other mundane concerns, Richard will take over the February 28 tavern event from Scott Eskinazi, the "official" autocrat. Lions End: Rumor has it that Lions End has a new Chronicler; the Seahorse staff doesn't yet know who for sure. Knight Marshal: We have a free indoor fighting-practice site: Middle School 136, at 40th St. & 4th Ave. in Brooklyn, Tuesdays 6-9 PM. There are several rooms, so we could do dance practice or other classes there too. Take N, R, M, or B subway to 36th St. Brooklyn and walk 4 blocks. Webmaster and Chronicler: The usual plea for submissions. The Seahorse has started a series of tales of foreign travel by Ostgardrians; more such tales are welcome. Question: in a group with several hundred alleged members, why is the Seahorse's paid subscription list under forty? Where is everybody? Whyt Whey: Old Exchequers keep disappearing, so we're changing bank accounts. Also submitting a device and planning construction of a banner. Vicereine: Remember to write award recommendation letters to Timothy and Gabrielle, copied to Ian and Katherine. State the person's mundane and SCA names, the award to be given, and specifics about why, all in one paragraph per person per award. Letters about different awards should be on different pages, for Their Majesty's convenience. EKU is nearby, in Rusted Woodlands/ Settmour Swamp; be there. Seahorse Ball: For anyone who hasn't heard, it's been cancelled. January Commons will be on January 16 at the Kapajs', 4291 Napier Avenue in the Bronx; call 718-994-2020 or email kapaj@webspan.net. By car from the north: Take the Major Deegan (I-87) south to east 233 Street, follow long exit ramp to light at end, and turn left. Go one block and turn left at light onto Van Cortland Park (at gas station on left). * Go three blocks and turn right onto Napier Ave. We're on the right hand corner of Napier and E. 236th Street. Park anywhere you can, but follow normal parking regulations; don't block people's driveways and watch for the few "No Parking" signs. By car from Long Island/Queens: Take Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridge to the Bronx. Follow signs and take I-95 towards G.W. Bridge. Follow signs for Major Deegan (I-87). Stay right on exit and ** take Major Deegan (I-87) north to exit 13 (east 233rd Street). Exit ramp has two lanes; stay left and go straight. At second light, turn left onto Van Cortland Park and see * above. By car from Manhattan: Get to the Major Deegan (I-87) (we usually take the FDR and the Willis Avenue bridge), and see ** above. By Public transportation: Call ahead for specific directions and to arrange to be picked up (5-10 min. ride) from the subway station.
