Highlights from the Jan. 17 Commons

Lions End: making contribution to St. Thomas church (a frequent event site) to help rebuild after a fire.  "Lion in the Daisies" will have no feast, but a prize for the best picnic basket.
Whyt Whey: A&S classes 2nd Thursdays: February's class is on Courtly Love (at Branwen's), and March's on Chaucer.  Bardic circle on 1st Thursdays; Middle Eastern dancing & drumming on last Fridays.  "Stitch & Bitch" party on Feb. 1, and "Green and white" party on Feb. 22 to make Provincial tabards, both at Branwen's; bring portable sewing machine if you have one.  Derek will hold armoring classes in late February, and maintains the Iron Key (loaner armor).  Branwen has Gold Key (loaner garb).
Northpass: Michelle will step down as Seneschal in favor of Ray Matra.  Seeking deputy Seneschal and new Chronicler.  "Stitch & Bitch" Feb. 13 at the Bordeaus'.  Considering an equestrian event and demo at a 4-H camp.
Seahorse Pursuivant: working on Provincial roll of arms; if you're not sure whether I have your name and device, send them in (address in Regnum).  Canton heralds, please contact me.  Planning a workshop on court & field heraldry.
Broken Bridge: Ben was elected Seneschal; expect a settling-in period.    Considering classes in armoring, brewing, and spinning.
Provincial Seneschal:  Remember to write recommendation letters if you think someone should get an award.  Spanish Valentine's on Feb. 15.  Celtic Silliness is on March 15, run by Eric Rhude: $10 includes feast directed by Phil Troy, and Ana Areces is coordinating entertainment.  Considering a Provincial Bardic Competition, next year's Brewers' Collegium, and a Cooks' Collegium at Blue Mountain Lodge.
The February Commons will be on Feb. 21 at the Kapajs', 4291 Napier Ave. in the  Bronx; phone 718-994-2020.  Take the Major Deegan to exit 13 (233 Street), left at 2nd light onto van Cortlandt Park East (at an Amoco station), go 2-3 blocks and turn left on Napier (just after 236th street); look for the yellow house on the corner.
Public transit: take the 4 train to Woodlawn Station, the last stop in the Bronx.  Phone from the station to be picked up.
The March Commons will be at the home of Baron Sean (John Cnapich), 143-35 Quince Ave. in Flushing, on March 21st.
The April Commons will be at the home of Gabriella Verde (Michelle Cardone) at 116 Bradford Ave. in Rye, on April 18th.
