Highlights from the May 16 Commons Seneschal: Broken Bridge and Whyt Whey have new Seneschals. Northpass and Lions End will have new Seneschals within a few months, and Ostgardr will have a new Seneschal in January; we'll need an Officers' Meeting in autumn to elect Sean's replacement. There have been conflicts over one Canton sponsoring events in another Canton's territory; we expect people on all sides to use common courtesy and work these things out like civilized adults. Creating office of Provincial Bard; probably chosen at Agincourt. Brew U. is probably Dec. 6. Whyt Whey: Guy is Deputy Seneschal. We're restarting archery practice some time. Most Canton meetings are at Belvedere Castle in Central Park unless it's raining, in which case they're at Ana's or Branwen's. Banner-making workshop at Kamilah's, 11 AM June 7. Hosting Useful University on Oct. 18. Chatelaine got a call from CBS about fighter practice as a "sport in NYC"; Sean reminds everyone to contact him immediately if contacted by the press. Northpass: We held a successful demo for 6-year-olds at Mahopac Library on 5/14; a demo for 6th-graders will be at Pleasantvill Middle School on 5/30. Barleycorn will be the weekend of Sept. 6-7; considering equestrian demo there. Chris Peters will be Webmaster. Rick's posters impressed Pace University; trying for an official student organization and an official meeting place. Archery practice at Blue Mountain has been poorly attended, and Ro will run it only if people tell her in advance that they're coming. Broken Bridge: planning regular fighter practice. Considering event in Prospect Park next year. Lions End: Jessica will become Seneschal in July; Mouche will switch to Chatelaine until she leaves. Lion in Winter will be December 13. Herald: Kingdom herald was very happy we enclosed SASP with recent submissions; recommend this to all heralds. People, please make & display banners. Best contact for Provincial herald is email (see Regnum). Exchequer: we filed a balanced report, unlike 1/3 of the groups in the East.... Viceroy: Draft bylaws have been printed and await only address lists from all Canton chroniclers; please comment in writing (not email!). Speaking of which, the Viceroy has a new email address: ostgardr@hotmail.com. (No, it's not spelled "hotmale"....) When you go to a demo, remember that it's not an event: if you're there in costume, you're "on", and representing the SCA to the public. Kingdom Bard: remember bardic circles 1st Thursdays at Belvedere (or Ana's or Branwen's if raining). Considering recording tape for Kingdom fundraising. June Commons will be on June 20 at Kamilah's apartment in Whyt Whey, 8:00 PM. By subway: 1 or 9 train to 125th St. * Walk west on Tiemann 1 block. Left on Claremont and find 195. Buzzer (and apt.) number is 4K. By car: take Henry Hudson Parkway to 125th St. Right on Broadway 1 block, right on Tiemann, look for parking, and see * above.
