Highlights from the Oct. 18 Commons Vicereine: Atlantia has been worrying about Kingdom fundraising. Katherine suggested some of our successful tricks like "Pie-a-Peer", and they're interested. The (non-SCA) Christmas Revels, on a medieval French theme, are Dec. 12-15. Northpass: Barleycorn was a success. Next event Jan. 17-19; see announcement in this issue. Michelle stepping down as Seneschal shortly, and she has three candidates to replace her -- Rick Wolff, Katherine Martin, and Ray Mantera. Whyte Whey: The West Village demo happened to coincide with a street fair, so it did even better than expected. Pursuivant: There is a ceremony on the books for investing local heralds with their offices. Let's use it, perhaps at the Valentine's event in February. Broken Bridge: We had people at the Cloisters Medieval Fair, fighting, singing, and dancing. TV news was there. Lions End: Michelle is not moving to Chicago (yay!) but might still be moving to someplace like Boston. The Lion in Winter event is cancelled due to lack of autocrat, lack of chef, and lack of site. The Valentine's event, on a Spanish theme, will be Feb. 15 at a good site in Hicksville, 3 blocks from the LIRR. Michelle and Sean will autocrat; Deborah and Steve will run the feast. Lion in the Daisies will be at the same site next summer as it was this year, the Chelsea Center. There will be no feast, just a day board. The Huntington Universalist Church (a favorite site) had a fire in the sanctuary recently; Lions End is considering making a donation. The undercroft (where we hold events) is undamaged. Seneschal: There seem to be many SCA members in the NYC area who don't actually participate in Ostgardr; consider a one-time mass mailing to bring them out of the woodwork. Agincourt will be on Nov. 9. The cheese from Gideanus's cheesemaking workshop will be there, and Denise Wolff will run the feast (assistants welcome!) Brew U. (Dec. 13-15) is still taking reservations; see ad in this issue. Northpass would like to buy some all-weather archery targets. They'll raise donations and the Province may provide matching funds; this will be discussed at an Officers' Meeting on Jan. 11 at Sean's. Upcoming Meetings 15 November at Greg Sprimont's apt. in Manhattan (see below) 20 December at Deborah and Steve's apt. in Kew Gardens (directions in June Seahorse, and in next issue) 17 January at Alison's apt. in Brooklyn Directions to the November 15 Commons Greg lives at "The Breslin", 1186 Broadway between 28th and 29th streets in Manhattan, apartment 512.
