Q: How is "Ostgardr" pronounced?
A: A purist would maintain that the correct Icelandic pronunciation
(complete with pitch-inflections) would be something like "ooOOST-arth(r)",
with the final r nearly silent, but the Vikings of the Province's early
days have given way to a cosmopolitan assortment of Spaniards, Moors, Celts,
Normans, et multae cetera, who mostly pronounce the name "OOST-gard"
(although some long-time members still say "Estgard").
